Who is Liv Sansoz ?
Follow me on :
Liv has had one of the most successful competition careers. Two times world champion and three times overall World Cup winner. She was also one of the first women to send an 8c/c+ route (5.14b/c).
Liv Sansoz was born in Les Arcs Bourg St Maurice, in the French Alps and spent her childhood outside, walking, running, skiing, and enjoying nature in the Mountains. Like all the kids in the valley she started to ski at the age of two. It’s only at the
age of 14 that she started to climb and fell in love with it. Three years later she became a climbing competition star and has claimed every possible title in the sport has to offer : two time world champion, three time overall World Cup winner and early 50 international podiums. In 2000 she free climbed "Hasta la Vista" 8c/c+ at Mt Charleston, Nevada. At that time there was only one other woman, (Josune Bereziartu), who had reached such a level. In 2001 she decided to take a break, recover from an injury and to finish her studies. But her love and passion for all forms of climbing activities still smoldered. Feeling the need to explore new horizons and to experience new things, Liv has travelled throughout many countries for bouldering, trad climbing or alpine climbing. Now, in her early thirties, Liv is more devoted to traveling to secluded places and climbing Alpine routes. She’s always looking for new experiences, learning from them and sharing them with other.
Liv is capable of training hard to achieve her goals. Her competitive success required a huge amount of commitment and energy, which she is now focusing on adventure projects around the world. She truly loves the challenge of a new and exciting route, and the intimately involved process of completing it. Besides training and playing in the mountains, climbing, ice climbing, skiing, BASE jumping or paragliding, Liv works for some major leisure industry companies such as : Petzl, Mountain Hardwear, Beal, LaSportiva, Les Arcs and Julbo.
